Delhi Congress expels two councillors

New Delhi: Delhi Congress on Wednesday expelled two of its municipal councillors from the party's primary membership for six years for alleged anti-party activities. Pravin Bansal and Deepika Khullar had filed nomination as independent candidates against the party's official nominees after they were denied tickets, DPCC chief Ram Babu Sharma said here.

"They have been expelled as they did not withdraw from the contest despite notices issued to them," he said.

Four held for kidnapping

NEW DELHI: Four young men have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a girl from Khajoori Khas here.

The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar (23), Lalit Dhawan (20), Lalit Tomar (23) and Pawan Kumar (28).

According to the police, the accused dragged the girl into their jeep near Khajoori Khas Chowk late on Monday night. When an auto-rickshaw driver gave chase, they allegedly threw the girl out of the vehicle near the Police Training College in Khajoori Pushta and fled. The girl, who sustained serious head injuries, has been admitted to a trauma centre and is still unconscious.

The accused were later arrested with the help of the registration number of the vehicle provided by the auto-rickshaw driver.

The police said Amit Kumar, a science graduate, was previously involved in four cases of kidnapping and rape. Lalit Tomar and Pawan are also graduates, while Lalit Dhawan is a school drop-out.

Held with drugs

NEW DELHI: An alleged drug peddler has been arrested with 10 kg of charas of Nepal origin at Jehangirpuri here by the Special Cell of the Delhi police.

Nanhe Lal, a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on Tuesday when he approached Indian Gas Agency at Padam Nagar to allegedly deliver the consignment. During interrogation, he purportedly disclosed that he and his accomplice Buddhan had smuggled in the stuff from Nepal.

`Robbers' nabbed

New Delhi: Four persons from Uttar Pradesh were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly looting a truck with electrical goods worth Rs 10 lakh in Chankyapuri area here two days ago, police said. The arrested have been identified as Aslam, Rakesh, Bichu and Gyandas. The truck and stolen goods worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered from them when they were trying to sell these off to a junk dealer in Khajuri Khas area. The police are further interrogating the four.

New power panel

NEW DELHI: To help the Capital's power distribution companies procure power from April 1, the Delhi Power Procurement Group has been formed. It will be headed by Delhi Transco Limited General Manager M.P. Aggarwal.

The distribution licensees, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and North Delhi Power Limited, will be represented by Sanjay Srivastava, Sunil Kakkar and Devender Daruwala respectively. The discoms will sign the power purchase agreement directly with the generating companies and power utilities of other States.
