Yuva Morcha march turns violent

Thiruvananthapuram: Three policemen, including an Assistant Commissioner of Police, and several others were injured after the march taken out by the activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) to the City Corporation office here on Wednesday turned violent.

A water tanker and an autorickshaw were damaged in front of the corporation office by the BJYM activists who were protesting against the City Corporation's decision to avail itself of loan from the Asian Development Bank.

Trouble began when a group of 18 BJYM activists barged into the corporation office before Deputy Mayor V. Jayaprakash was to present the budget. The police removed the activists.

Later, around 50 activists took out a march from Museum junction to the corporation office. The activists started hurling stones near the main gate of the corporation building and attacked Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cantonment) Somanathan Pillai. The activists were chased away by the police. BJP district general secretary Karamana Jayan, BJYM vice-president Chempazhanthi Udayan and BJYM leader Suresh who sustained injuries in the police action were admitted to Medical College Hospital.
