`Boards are setting MPs against MLAs and MLAs against MLCs'
BANGALORE: Members of the Legislative Council cutting across the party lines on Thursday said they were being discriminated against by officials of the various development boards. Raising the issue during the debate on the Budget, V.S. Ugrappa (Congress) said one of the boards recently convened a meeting of MPs, MLAs, MLCs and zilla panchayat members to discuss development programmes suggested by them. Although the MLCs at the meeting suggested some programmes, the board authorities passed a resolution against undertaking the programmes suggested by the MLCs, he said. The authorities concerned in the various boards were setting MPs against MLAs and MLAs against MLCs, Mr. Ugrappa charged. Y.A. Narayanaswamy (independent) and `Mukhyamantri' Chandru (BJP) urged the Government to strengthen the Bayaluseeme and Border Area Development Boards by extending an additional grant of Rs. 5 crore each.
