Letters to the Editor
The news of the LTTE's aerial strike on the Sri Lanka Air Force base came as a grave shock. The failure to detect the aircraft that illegally entered the airspace is not only a reflection on Sri Lanka's security system but also on the failure of Indian intelligence agencies. All these years, we have been complacent in acting against the LTTE that continues to have clandestine operations on our soil. We have also given a long rope to those Tamil Nadu politicians whose blatant support to this terrorist organisation has emboldened many to help the Tigers. At least now, India should wake up. It should conduct a thorough search for all Sri Lankans living in India to ascertain the purpose of their stay; scrutinise the travel documents of Sri Lankans who pass through our airports; arrest those who support the LTTE; and extend all possible support to the ailing Sri Lankan army to annihilate the terrorist organisation.
Teresita Joeson,
P.U. Krishnan,
India, already hit by terrorist violence, cannot afford to remain a silent spectator. Support, overt or covert, to separatist forces like the LTTE from any quarter will endanger peace and tranquillity in the neighbourhood.
K.V. Seetharamaiah,
