ANANTAPUR: A suspect in a recent factional murder case, G. Venkata Prasad (28), was killed in an alleged encounter with the police outside Epulapalli village of Talupula mandal in the district in the wee hours of Wednesday. Four other suspects in the same case succeeded in escaping the police. According to the police, a special party had taken up search operations in the surroundings of the village on specific information that about half-a-dozen suspects in the murder of D. Venkatrami Reddy of Guttakindapalli , a Congress leader and president of Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Society of Mudigubba, who was killed on March 22, were hiding in a hut near a stone quarry outside the village. When a member of the special police party went near the hut , Venkata Prasad allegedly attacked him with a sickle. The team rounded the suspects and issued a warning to all of them to surrender. In a bid to give a slip to the police party, the alleged criminal hurled a bomb on to the police jeep. The police opened fire in retaliation, killing Venkata Prasad on the spot. Four other suspects succeeded in escaping the police in the cover of darkness. In all, three constables sustained minor injuries in the incident. Meanwhile, the family members of Venkata Prasad alleged that the police had killed him after he had surrendered three days ago. and refused to claim the body.
