Sharath overcomes Soumyajit

KOLKATA: Top seeded Sharath Kamal overcame stiff resistance from Soumyajit Sarkar to win his pre-quarterfinal round match 4-2 in the YMCA prize money table tennis here on Thursday.

In other matches, second-seeded Subhajit Saha was also given a fright by Amit Das of Bengal and Sourav Chakraborty beat former champion Arup Basak, who conceded after trailing by 1-2 games.

In the women's section, the seeded players won their respective matches to move into the quarterfinals.
