CPT stuns Kolkata

KOCHI: Host Cochin Port Trust stunned defending champion Kolkata 3-2 and then blanked Paradip and Kandla to top Group `A' and enter the semifinals of the 30th all-India Major Ports table tennis championship on Thursday.

Also entering the semifinals were Kolkata (Group A runner-up), Group B topper Visakhapatnam and runner-up Mumbai.

The CPT chairman N. Ramachandran inaugurated the three-day championship.

The results (league):

Group A: Cochin bt Kolkata 3-2, Cochin bt Paradip 3-0, Cochin bt Kandla 3-0, Kandla bt Paradip 3-0, Kolkata bt Kandla 3-0.

Group B: Visakhapatnam bt Mumbai 3-1, Visakhapatnam bt Goa 3-0, Visakhapatnam bt Chennai 3-0, Mumbai bt Chennai 3-0, Mumbai bt Goa 3-0, Chennai bt Goa 3-2. — Principal Correspondent
