HYDERABAD: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G. Madhavan Nair has said technology explosion was so rapid that the day was not far off when electronic paper would replace normal paper in day-to-day functioning.
No burden
All one needed to do was to put the electronic paper in computer and use it for reading or writing. The practice would save carrying bulky papers, he said addressing a national seminar on `Choice and use of information and communication technology in open and distance learning: impacts, strategies and future projects' at the B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) here on Thursday. Dr. Nair said integration of high-end technology with social aspects was the biggest challenge of education. He asked administrators to revolutionise education at primary and secondary levels of school education by incorporating relevant knowledge in the curriculum. He also felt the need for strengthening the multilingual abilities of teachers. The six lakh village schools, 10,000 colleges and 300 universities in the country should be networked for dissemination of knowledge. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, said major structural changes in the university system were necessary for realising the full potential of technology integration in higher education. D. Ram Chandram, BRAOU Vice-Chancellor, and P. Vijayalakshmi Pandit, Director of G. Ram Reddy Research Academy of Distance Education, also spoke.
