Anand ensures rapid title

NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand made sure of the rapid title, while World champion Vladimir Kramnik sealed the overall and blindfold crowns with a round to spare in the Amber chess tournament at Monaco on Wednesday.

In the 10th and penultimate round, Anand drew with Hungary's Peter Leko 1-1.

The results (10th round): Blindfold: Viswanathan Anand (4.5) drew with Peter Leko (Hun, 3.5); Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 6.5) drew with Boris Gelfand (Isr, 6.5), Teimour Radjabov (Aze, 4.5) bt Levon Aronian (Arm, 5); Vladimir Kramnik (Rus, 8.5) drew with Peter Svidler (Rus, 6.5); Loek van Wely (Ned, 3) bt Francisco Pons Vallejo (Esp, 2); Alexander Morozevich (Rus, 6) bt Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 3.5 ).

Rapid: Leko (5.5) drew with Anand (8); Gelfand (4) drew with Ivanchuk (6); Aronian (5.5) lost to Radjabov (4), Svidler (4.5) drew with Kramnik (6); Vallejo (3.5) bt Wely (3); Carlsen (5.5) bt Morozevich (4.5). .
