KOLKATA : Former champion Mohun Bagan beat Hindustan Aeronautic Sports Club (HASC) 1-0 in a 10th round match of the 11th National Football League here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Thursday. Struck by performance blues in the first phase of the tournament, the win for Mohun Bagan came as a refreshing change at the start of the second leg. Midfielder Lalkamal Bhowmick scored the all-important goal for Mohun Bagan in the 15th minute of the match. This was only the third win for Mohun Bagan, which had last won in the sixth round. The team had drawn three matches and lost four to tally 12 points from 10 matches. On the other hand HASC, which had drawn goalless against Bagan playing at home in the first phase, continued to stay at the bottom with six points from 10 outings. Mohun Bagan enjoyed greater ball possession but failed to increase the margin owing to a flatfooted attack. Both Baichung Bhutia who got close to scoring twice in the second half and youthful Lalawmpuia, manning the home attack, earned chances but failed to find the mark against an overtly defensive opposition. For HASC, Gyanmoyan had the chance to find the equaliser but his 87th minute attempt missed the target. -
