CUTTACK: The city police on Thursday arrested five persons on the charge of committing some dozen tender related crimes in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The accused persons were also allegedly involved in the Prachi division shootout in Bhubaneswar in April 2004 in which two persons died. The police sources said that two of the arrested persons were sharpshooters of noted gangster Anil Chhotray. Involved in several tender fixing cases in the State, Chhotray is currently cooling his heels behind the bars in the April 2004 Bhubaneswar shootout case. Cuttack SP S.K. Priyadarshi said the arrested persons were moving suspiciously near the Malgodown fly-over. The police immediately swung into action and arrested them.
Pistols recovered
"Two country-made pistols, three live cartridges, one bhujali were recovered from their possession." Priyadarshi said. The police also seized two motorcycles and two cellphones from them, the SP added. The accused persons reportedly confessed to their involvement in the shootout case. "They are also involved in at least six bombing incidents in the two cities," said Malgodown police inspector P.K. Rath.
