BHUBANESWAR: Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai presented vote on account of Rs. 14,008.33 crores for the first four months of 2007-08 financial year in the State Assembly on Thursday. In his address, Mr. Ghadai said that the vote on account emphasis had been given to education of tribal and Harijan students, old age pension, poverty eradication programmes and development of infrastructure. The Minister said that in the tentative revenue collection and expenditure projected for the 2007-08 Budget had shown revenue surplus after a gap of 22 years. Mr. Ghadai informed that a sum of Rs. 19,491.17 crores was projected to be the collection of revenue and recovery of loans during 2007-08 as against Rs. 15,741.48 crores in 1006-07. The Minister said a sum of Rs. 14,008.33 crores had been projected to spend for the first quarter of the coming fiscal, while the total expenditure from the consolidated for the whole year had been projected to be Rs. 23,385.32 crores. Mr. Ghadai said that an amount of Rs. 192 crores was earmarked for old age pension during the first quarter of the coming fiscal. A sum of Rs. 75.64 crores had been kept as State's share for special nutrition programme and mid-day meal scheme. The other areas that had been given emphasis included rural development (Rs. 185 crores), Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Tribe Department (Rs. 53 crores) and urban development (Rs. 108 crores), Mr. Ghadai said.
