CHENNAI: The 33rd India Tourist and Industrial Fair-2007, which concluded here on Thursday, posted a gate collection of Rs.103.54 lakh, an increase of 27 per cent over last year, and an all-time high profit of Rs.136.43 lakh up from Rs.120.87 lakh last year, registering a 13 per cent increase. Addressing the valedictory function, Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan said 12 lakh people visited the fair this year, 14 per cent more than last year's 10.56 lakh visitors. The collection achieved last year over 75 days was netted in 44 days during this year's fair, organised by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. He said 25 State Government departments, 9 State Government undertakings, 4 Central undertakings, and two other State Government departments took part.
Prizes distributed
He gave away special prizes to the best pavilions. The first prize was bagged by the Labour Department. The Rural Development Department and the Sericulture Department bagged the second and third prizes. For the prizes meant for participants from other States, the Horticulture Department of Himachal Pradesh got the first prize and Karnataka Soap bagged the second prize.
