Schools unhappy with Government's decision

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The recommendation of the three-member Cabinet sub-committee on the issue of derecognition of schools, which gives the schools a reprieve of four years with a fine, has left the managements dissatisfied.

P. Prakash, Unaided Schools Association president, said the proposed fine of Rs. 1 lakh for schools in Bangalore was "unreasonably high" and the rider of the sub-committee to phase out English medium by making new admissions to Standard I only to Kannada medium was "unreasonable". Members of the association, he said, would file writ petitions in the High Court once the Government Order on this issue is passed.

Private Unaided Schools Action Committee president N. Venkatachaliah said they would be launching a protest if the Government insisted on the "hefty fine". The association had appealed to the Chief Minister to hold till case pending in High Court was settled.
