CRIMENOTES

BANGALORE: Madhu, 18-year-old II PU student, committed suicide on Thursday in Madivala police station limits, following a dismal performance in her Chemistry examination earlier in the day.

Madhu, daughter of head constable at Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), Venkatesh, was found hanging from the ceiling at 4 p.m.

She reportedly took this extreme step immediately after she returned home from the examination. Her parents were not present at that time.

House burgled

Burglars struck at a businessman's house in Chickpet police station limits and made away with gold ornaments and silver articles, all estimated at Rs. 10 lakh.

The theft took place at Sriramchand's third floor house on Sri Gopalakrishna Temple Street when his family was away from Bangalore for three days.

The incident came to light after Sriramchand returned on Wednesday night. The thieves had looted 750 grams of gold and 400 grams of silver. The Chickpet police have registered a case.

Cash taken away

A man distracted a bank customer and made away with Rs. 50,000 from the State Bank of India branch in Rajajinagar Wednesday. Basavaraj P. Angadi came to the bank near Rama Mandira to deposit Rs. 50,000 around noon. He kept the cash bundle on the table and was filling the challan when a man drew his attention to a few Rs. 10 notes lying on the floor.

While Mr. Angadi bent down to pick up the notes, the man made away with the cash bundle.

Arrested

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials arrested the executive director and general manager of a hotel in Seshadripuram on charges of fraudulently obtaining the relay of 40 television channels, for which a cable network company held the copyright.
