Trader allegedly commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old trader allegedly committed suicide at Keshav Puram here on Thursday.

According to the police, Sushil Kumar Gupta was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room in the morning. He had an altercation with his brothers on Wednesday night and later went to sleep in his room. When he did not come out in the morning, the family members broke open the door and found him hanging.

He was taken to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Woman found hanging

New Delhi: A woman, who had been married for the last four years, was on Thursday found hanging at her husband's house in West Delhi, leading to allegations from her family that it was a case of dowry death.

Mumtaz, a resident of Sagarpur, was found hanging from a fan this morning at her husband's Bhagavati Vihar residence and her family has alleged that it was a case of dowry death, police said here.

A case of dowry death has been registered against her in-laws at the Uttam Nagar police station and an inquiry by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been ordered into the incident.

So far nobody has been arrested, police added.

Head constable kills himself

NEW DELHI: A 44-year-old Delhi Police head constable allegedly committed suicide at Civil Lines here on Thursday.

According to the police, Kanwarpal, a driver, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at Old Civil Lines Barracks around 8-30 a.m. No suicide note was recovered.

Kanwarpal was facing an attempt-to-murder charge in a case registered in U.P. and the next hearing in the case was scheduled for May 5. He was earlier suspended in January 1999 after a theft case was registered against him at the Welcome police station.

A native of Meerut, he had been depressed for the past few days. He had joined the Delhi police in 1982.

Four held for robbery

NEW DELHI: Four persons have been arrested at Sonia Vihar here in connection with a robbery case. Electronic goods valued at Rs. 11 lakh and a country-made pistol have been recovered from them, the police said.

A trap was laid at Vishal Vatika and the accused -- Gyan Das, Bechu, Rakesh and Aslam -- were arrested.

All four are school dropouts.
