NEW DELHI: Two alleged drug peddlers carrying 12 kg of heroin have been arrested by the Narcotics Branch at Dhaula Kuan here. The stuff was manufactured from opium poppy illegally cultivated in West Bengal. Acting on a tip-off that two drug peddlers would come near Dhaula Kuan, the Narcotics Branch sleuths laid a trap and arrested them with the consignment of heroin on March 24. They were identified as Chhatar Singh (28), a resident of Chittorgarh in Rajasthan, and Mohammad Israfil (28), a resident of Murshidabad in West Bengal. During interrogation, Chhatar purportedly disclosed that he inherited his father's business of legal poppy cultivation. Two years ago he came in contact with a drug trafficker named Salim Lala and at his instance, began diverting illegally cultivated opium poppy for heroin production.
