This Day That Age
The new decimal coinage with 100 naye paise for the rupee comes into force on April 1, and the business community, the banks, the Post and Telegraph Department, the Government and other public institutions are getting ready for the change-over. With the announcement on March 30 of two major decisions - the continuance of the sale of the existing postage stamps at new values and the rates of money order commission - the stage is set for an almost complete switch-over of the Post and Telegraph services to the decimal coinage system. It is for the first time in 100 years that the entire structure of postal tariff has had to be revised simultaneously.
