DHAKA : The caretaker Government of Bangladesh has approved in principle a proposal to introduce a regular Joydevpur-Sealdah passenger train service, linking Dhaka and Kolkata. The council of advisers, at a meeting on Thursday with Chief Adviser Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair, also approved proposals for establishing a South Asian University (SAU) and a SAARC Food Bank. The agreements will be signed during Dr. Ahmed's four-day visit to New Delhi for the April 3-4 SAARC summit. He leaves the country on Monday. Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim told journalists that Dr. Ahmed would hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the first day of his visit. Mr. Munaim said a three-year agreement on the Joydevpur-Sealdah train service was first signed on July 12, 2001 and extended in 2004. The agreement expires in July this year. India wanted to further extend the agreement up to 2010 and start a regular train service.
