KOLKATA: Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly H.A. Halim on Friday deferred his ruling on a privilege motion brought by the Leader of the Opposition against Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to April 2. In his motion, Partha Chatterjee, a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress, has accused the Chief Minister of misleading the House on the Singur issue, particularly in reference to certain details regarding the acquisition of land for the up-coming Tata Motors automobile project there. It was moved in the House on Thursday. Mr. Halim turned down separate breach of privilege motions by two Trinamool Congress legislators for the alleged use of unparliamentary language on Thursday by two Left Front members, including Minister of Water Resources, Nandagopal Bhattacharya. The two motions had been rejected because it was the Trinamool Congress members, who were themselves committing a breach of privilege by trying to disrupt the proceedings of the House, the Speaker said. Later, commenting on the Speaker's decision to defer the ruling, Mr. Partha Chatterjee said Mr. Halim was "taking time to protect the Chief Minister and the State Government."
Charge refuted
Refuting the charge Mr. Halim told newspersons that he had made a draft of his ruling and was working on the final version. "Time is short so I will give the ruling on Monday, the next working day. There is no problem with that", he said.
