BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday told the Legislative Council that he would table a status report in both the Houses of the State Legislature on the affairs of the Mines Department since 1997. He also offered to subject himself to a Lokayukta inquiry with respect to the mining bribery charges levelled against him. Replying to an issue raised by Leader of the Opposition H.K. Patil regarding alleged irregularities in mining, the Chief Minister also expressed the willingness of the Government to hold a legislature debate on the affairs of the mining department as well as the alleged irregularities in mining. He said he would place all the documents and records of the mining department, since 1997, before the legislature houses. Mr. Kumaraswamy said he was committed to providing more powers to the Lokayukta. Meanwhile, Mr. Yediyurappa announced that a meeting of floor leaders of both the houses of the State Legislature would be convened in four days to discuss the steps to be taken to bail out sugarcane growers who were in dire straits due to glut in the production of sugarcane.
