Top stars for snooker tournament

Coimbatore: Three-time World champion Pankaj Advani, Asian gold medallist Rafat Habib, Indian Railway's top-ranked player Kamal Chawla and a host of top stars from the State will take part in the open invitation snooker tournament for the Reliance Mobile Trophy at the Champions Billiards Academy here from April 2 to 8.

Cricket camp

The RKS Cricket Academy will conduct its ninth summer coaching camp for boys and girls at the R.K. Sree Rangammal Kalvi Nilayam Higher Secondary School grounds here from April 14 to May 13.

Velmurugan shines

At Salem, A fine 102 by S. Velmurugan saw Blue Star Cricket Club score a 28-run win over City Boys Cricket Club in the TNCA-SDCA first division cricket league at the Salem Steel Plant grounds recently.

The scores: First division: AVR CC 208 for seven in 45 overs (Swaminathan 58 not out, P. Praveen Kumar 67) lost to GMCC 210 for eight in 44.3 overs; Blue Star CC 269 for eight in 40 overs (S. Velmurugan 102, M. Shanmuganathan 50) bt City Boys CC 241 for nine in 40 overs (Prakash 68, Venkatesh 50).

Second division: Sunil CC 122 in 40 overs (Manikandan six for 16) lost to Prime CC 128 for six in 20 overs; Rajagopalan CC 180 in 41 overs (Selvakumar 42, C. Rajkumar four for 11) bt Jaganathan CC 181 in 41 overs (Navaneetha Ganesh five for 23); Sivanthi CC 146 in 40 overs (Soundar six for 34) lost to Free Birds CC 148 for four in 27.2 overs.
