GUNTUR: Medical Council of India has yet again reduced the number of seats prescribed for intake into the MBBS programme in the Government-run Guntur Medical College if the information put on its website is to be believed. The MCI website (http://www.mciindia.org) updated on March 24, says that only 125 seats were permitted with a remark under MCI Recognition Status "Recommended for de-recognition. Admission stopped". When contacted, the College authorities said they did not have any official information on this and were awaiting a communication. Directorate of Medical Education at Hyderabad also did not have any such information, they said as the communication comes to the Principals of the Colleges. If any such communication comes, it would be sent to the Government and it was for the Government to take necessary steps to set right all the deficiencies marked by the MCI. The MCI had allowed an intake of 150 seats in the college affiliated to the NTR Health University after reducing 25 seats a year before that. The college would be given two months' time to rectify the deficiencies and report to the MCI and the authorities were hopeful that everything would be set right before the admission time.
