BERHAMPUR: The CPI(M) has urged the government to sort out the problems of inhabitants of Nua Golabandha village who have been living on the verge of displacement since the past two decades. On March 23, the village faced a devastating fire accident. A fact-finding team of the party led by its Ganjam district secretary Kalu Panda visited the village after the accident. Mr. Panda said that the villagers were still not sure whether they would get any government help for reconstruction of their gutted houses. Officials were also in a fix on extending financial help to the villagers. The village falls under the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ). Some 20 years ago, its land was handed over to the Army Air Defence College, Golabandha. But the villagers were not displaced because they demanded proper rehabilitation package. The government was yet to meet the demand. Officials recorded 193 families as victims of the fire accident leaving behind more than 20 families who also bore the loss, he said. At present, families that lost houses are living in makeshift huts near the beach. They government, he alleged, stopped extending relief three after the fir accident.
