BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said that the Government would, if need be, sue the former member of Planning Commission L.C. Jain on what he termed as the false statement pertaining to the implementation of the State Budget. Mr. Jain had reportedly stated that the Government had implemented only 42 of the 121 assurances that it had held out in the 2006-07 Budget, which worked out to around 34 per cent. He had launched a broadside against the Government in this connection. Reacting to the criticism levelled by some of the Opposition leaders, Mr. Yediyurappa said: "The Government is confident that the implementation of the budget and the promises made therein would surpass 90 per cent. I am the Finance Minister and have closely monitored the implementation. If I am wrong you can move a privilege motion against me. However, against Mr. Jain, however great an expert he may be the Government will consider filing a defamation suit, if need be."
