PALAKKAD: The train and bus services from Palakkad to Coimbatore district was disrupted on account of the 12-hour bandh called by the ruling Dravida Munnettra Kazhakam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu in protest against the Supreme Court verdict on OCB quota on Saturday. Three express trains were detained at Palakkad railway junction on Saturday till 6 p.m. The trains were Thiruvanathapuram -Hyderabad Shabari Express, Bokaro Express and Mangalore -Coimbatore Express. The passenger trains between Palakkad and Coimbatore also did to operate its services. The Mangalore-Chennai Egmore Express was terminated at Shoranur. The meter gauge Palakkad-Madurai Express was also cancelled. The KSRTC buses from Palakkad to Coimbatore also did not operate till 6 p.m. This inconvenienced the people. The functioning of the inter-State Walayar check-post was affected due to the bandh. No vehicle from Tamil Nadu side could cross over to Kerala. Likewise, vehicles from Kerala to Tamil Nadu side could not ply. Long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the inter-State check-post waiting for the bandh to end at 6 p.m.
