TIRUVANNAMALAI: A decision on issue of cutting orders and procurement of accumulated sugarcane stocks lying with farmers registered with the Arunachala Sugar Mills, Tiruvannamalai, (closed now) was reached at a meeting of the representatives of the Sugarcane Producers' Association, Tiruvannamalai Collector, the Joint Director of Agriculture, Tiruvannamalai, and the officials of the four sugar mills. The meeting was presided over by Commissioner of Sugars Sandeep Saxena in Chennai on Friday. According to an official release from Tiruvannamalai Collector Satyabrata Sahoo, the Commissioner has asked the Ambur Cooperative Sugar Mills (ACSM), Tiruttani Cooperative Sugar Mills (TCSM), S.V. Sugar Mills, Kancheepuram, and Dharani Sugar Mills, Polur, to issue cutting orders and procure accumulated stocks as per the following schedule between April 1 and July 31, 2007 The ACSM has been asked to procure 100 tonnes of sugarcane daily during April, May and June (till June 10), while the TCSM has been asked to procure 300 tonnes daily in April, May and June (till June 10). The S.V. Sugar Mills, Kancheepuram has been asked to procure 50 tonnes daily in April, 800 tonnes daily in May, 1,300 tonnes daily in June and 1,000 tonnes daily in July, amounting to a total of 70,000 tonnes. The Dharani Sugar Mills, Polur, has been asked to procure 750 tonnes daily in April, 1,000 tonnes daily in May, 1,200 tonnes daily in June and 1,500 tonnes daily in July, amounting to a total of 1.70 lakh tonnes. The total procurement works out to 2.80 lakh tonnes. The Commissioner has asked the sugar mills to issue the cane cutting orders to the farmers based on seniority, not exceeding 100 tonnes per farmer. As far as the procurement by TCSM is concerned, the assistant director of agriculture and cane officer for Tiruvannamalai should jointly prepare the seniority list based on field inspection and cane growth. After procuring the cane allotted to them, the ACSM, TCSM and S.V. Sugar Mills, Kancheepuram, should close their temporary cane offices in Tiruvannamalai. The remaining sugarcane should be procured by the Dharani Sugar Mills, which has been asked to register the cane area of the farmers (hitherto registered with the Arunachala Sugar Mills) for the 2007-08 season and arrange for issue of fresh crop loans to farmers till the Arunachala Sugar Mills reopens. The Commissioner has also directed the participants at the meeting to ensure that the above cane cutting procedure is started on April 1 and completed before the end of July.
