ONGOLE : The CPI (M-L) New Democracy has demanded the State Government to constitute all party committees at village level to retrieve assigned land that was alienated and distribute the same among the poor.

The party took out a rally through main streets here on Saturday and held a meeting at the HCM girls high school. Addressing the gathering, the party Central Committee leader Madala Narayana Swamy said the "corrupt" officials would never be able to retrieve the land alienated to bigwigs.

They are only making attempts to retrieve the land which was purchased by poor people, he alleged.

He said the poor people sold away the land assigned to them because they had no resources to cultivate it. So he demanded that the Government should distribute the land among the poor again and provide them inputs to bring it under cultivation.

Gummadi Narasaiah, party MLA, exhorted the poor to fight to get the land distributed.

Permission denied

He said that the party leaders had to go round the police to get permission for the public meeting.

Superintendent of Police, Vineet Brijlal had declined permission on the plea that New Democracy was sympathetic to Maoists, he said. The party had to take the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister to get permission.

District party secretary, Chittipati Venkateswarlu presided. All India Kisan Mazdoor Sangh general secretary, Gade Diwakar came down heavily on the West Bengal Government for resorting to violence and killing 15 persons who were agitating to oppose SEZ in Nandigram.
