GIFTING: Minister for Public Works and Energy H.D. Revanna distributing deeds for free sites to poor people in Hassan on Friday.
HASSAN: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will lead a delegation of leaders from five districts to Holland on April 13 to study facilities there for the processing and export of agricultural produce and milk products, Public Works and Energy Minister H.D. Revanna has said. He was speaking after launching development programmes and inaugurating the foundation-laying ceremony for the new Forest Department office, here on Friday. He also distributed the deeds for free sites to 2,005 poor people on behalf of the Chief Minister, who had to cancel his visit to Hassan at the last moment. Mr. Revanna said the Chief Minister had issued orders to the Public Works Department on Friday to take up the construction of an airport near Boovanahalli here. He said private firms would be involved in the project, for which tenders would be invited soon. He said 200 acres of land would be purchased to set up a pilot training centre at the proposed airport. Mr. Revanna said that former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who represents the district in Parliament, had asked him to invite industrialists to the district in April to explore the possibilities for setting up industries in and around Hassan. This would also provide employment to at least one lakh people here, he said. He said there was also a proposal to set up a golf club in Hassan. Mr. Revanna also announced Mr. Gowda's intention to put pressure on the Railways to speed up work on laying a railway line from Shravanabelagola to Bangalore, which was part of the Mangalore-Bangalore line. Mr. Gowda would also appeal to the Railways to run trains from Mangalore to Bangalore through Hassan and Arsikere, he said.
Agriculture college
Mr. Revanna said the construction of the new agriculture college here at a cost of Rs. 30 crore was progressing well and would be completed before the next academic year. He said it was proposed to start MBA and other professional courses too at the college.
