KOZHIKODE: Prime Minister's National Advisory Council member S. Parthasarathi inaugurated the valedictory function of the training programme on skill upgradation of rural craftsmen and women workers at the Saraswat Institute of Engineering and Technology (SIET) at Kakkodi, near here, on Saturday. The training programme is part of services to community and economy taken as part of the Technical Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). The training programme, coordinated by TEQIP manager Abraham T. Mathew of NIT-C aims at advancement of technology which is a main component for the financial progress of rural areas. The training programme includes month-long work experience classes conducted by the Civil Engineering Department and the Architectural Department of the NIT-C. A total of 20 unemployed persons were given training and 10 building construction workers given expert training by the Civil Engineering Department in building construction, especially in concrete and ferro-cement. They were given competency certificates by a team supervised by A. Sasikala of the NIT-C.
