Air show on April 12

Kozhikode : The aerobatic team of the Indian Air Force, Suryakiran, will display its skills at the Kozhikode beach here at 10 a.m. on April 12. The aerial choreography is being conducted as part of the platinum jubilee celebration of the elite defence wing.

Nine aircraft of the Suryakiran and three helicopters of the Sarang display team will perform aerial tricks. A 150-member will also arrive in the city for the event.

The nine Kiran MK II aircraft will take off and join in close formation manoeuvring between the speeds of 200 to 600 kmph with their wing tips five metres apart. A series of dynamic combinations are taken up resulting in constantly changing formations. Wing Commander Sandeep Bansal will lead the performance.

The Sarang team will display its agility and manoeuvrability of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited-built Dhruv helicopters.

The air show will be held within a distance of one km on the beach for one-and-a-half-hours.

A discussion for making arrangements for the programme was held at the District Collectorate on Thursday. District Collector in charge P. Balan presided over the meeting.

Wing Commanders S.K. Sharma and Vinod Kumar also took part in the meeting.
