Chennai: A blend of aggression and skill is what India needs in its hockey campaigns. This is the advocacy of Olympian and World Cupper, B.P. Govinda, who practised what he preached during his heyday. An inside-forward of rare charm and elegance, Govinda, who retired from Indian Airlines (now Indian) on Saturday after three decades of service, was a name that spelt magic in the seventies. During this period, Govinda donned the India colours in two World Cups, including the one that won the coveted prize in Kuala Lumpur, two Olympics (1972 and 1976) and three Asian Games (1970, 1974 and in 1978 as captain). Govinda, who hails from Coorg, represented Tamil Nadu and Indian Airlines in the National championships. He figured in the Kolkata league, and coached the National team with M.P. Ganesh in the late eighties, guiding the team to the Marshalls Trophy in Nairobi in 1988. He is now a member of the IHF selection committee. Hockey Correspondent
