Fire rages on mountain

KORAPUT: Fire broke out on a mountain near Koraput late on Friday night. People proceeding to Koraput from Jeypore alerted fire officials about the incident. But very little could be done to prevent fire from spreading till reports last came in as the forest officials at Koraput were ill equipped to handle the situation. The green cover that had grown over years was turning into ashes.

It was alleged that tribals were responsible for the situation. During their annual festival - Chaitra Parab - they hunt for animals. As traditional hunting methods were time consuming, they allegedly set fire to force animals out of their hideouts.
