BERHAMPUR: Personnel of the Berhampur Vigilance Department raided the tehsil office here on Saturday and arrested a senior clerk (settlement) Dhabaleswar Bhanja while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,000 from Sudesh Kumar Patro for conversion of four plots of agricultural land into homestead land. It was alleged that Bhanja had taken Rs. 2,000 from Mr. Patro for doing the favour and had asked for more. Mr. Patro then approached the Vigilance Department. As per the instructions of Vigilance SP Surya Thankappan, a raid on the tehsil office was planned to trap Bhanja.
Engineer arrested
A Junior Engineer of the Rural Works Department posted at Digapahandi Trinath Sethi was arrested by the Vigilance Department while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 9,000 from a contractor near De Paul School to pass pending bills. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vigilance, Subash Swain led the team to trap the engineer who allegedly wanted the amount to be given at a particular place in Berhampur.
