Bus fares reduced

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: Following decrease in the prices of petrol and diesel, the State government has announced reduction in bus fares. The fares were hiked in August last.

The decision was announced by Commerce and Transport Minister Jayanarayan Mishra on Friday. Making a statement on the issue, Mr. Mishra said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had taken a decision about slashing the bus fares after a technical committee of the Transport Department submitted a report keeping in the view the prevailing fuel prices. The Minister said that it had been decided to reduce one paisa per km from the existing fare for passenger and express buses, and two paisa per km for deluxe buses. The fares of town buses was reduced by 10 paisa for every 15 km and 20 paisa beyond 15 km. The revised fares would come into effect after a formal notification was issued by the Transport Department, Mr. Mishra added.
