Special Correspondent

Advocate seeks police protectionto his family

GULBARGA: A senior advocate and his friend were allegedly assaulted by a gang of four persons on Friday night.

The attack was allegedly led by Anand, accused of raping the advocate's daughter two years ago.

Out of danger

The advocate, who suffered injuries on his head and face, and his friend Devanand, were admitted to the Government General Hospital where they are reported to be out of danger.

The incident occurred at around 10.30 p.m. at the Subash Chowk near Nehru Gunj locality coming under the Chowk Police Station limits in the city.

According to the complaint filed by the advocate, the accused Anand and his friend Firoz along with two others waylaid and beat them up severely.

Accused

Anand is the accused in the case of the rape and kidnap of the daughter of the advocate in 2005.

The girl was taken to Bangalore by the gang and was later recovered from a rest house in Bangalore by the police and returned to her family.

The Gulbarga Police had arrested Anand based on the complaint given by the advocate and remanded him to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the State Government had transferred the investigation of the case to the Corps of Detectives (CoD) and very little progress has been achieved in it so far.

Anand, who was in judicial custody for more than three months, was released on bail by the local court on technical grounds.

Complaint

The advocate, in his complaint, stated that Anand had started harassing his family members right from the day of his release on bail.

Fearing threat to his life, the complaint said that he had orally complained to Superintendent of Police who asked him to give his complaint in writing.

Beaten up

He was beaten up even before he could do that. He has demanded protection to his family and himself.

The police have arrested Firoz and have launched a search for Anand who had gone into hiding.
