Demands details of mining lease granted to cement firm in which YSR's son is a director

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party has demanded that the Government publish a white paper on the allotment of land and grant of mining lease to a cement company in which Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's son is a director. The party also sought a white paper on the acquisition of lands for SEZs.

At a press conference here on Saturday, TDP MLAs K. Atchan Naidu, D. Narendra Kumar, Uma Maheswar Rao and Manohar, alleged that Dr. Reddy had made a mockery of democracy in allowing land to be allotted to the cement company. They wanted the Government to come out with details regarding more than 2,000 acres of land, also reportedly allotted to the same company on a 30-year lease for mining. They said that lands were being acquired in the name of Science City, SEZs and land bank.

The TDP legislators said that a majority of those nominated to the Legislative Council by the Governor were Congress workers. They urged the Governor to suggest to the Government to make some changes.

`Influenced IIT panel'

At another press conference, former TDP MP S. Venugopalachary alleged that Chief Minister had influenced the experts committee, appointed to identify the location of the proposed IIT, to suggest its establishment in Medak district. He recalled that Dr. Reddy had stated that the institute would be established in Medak on two occasions even before the committee submitted its report. He declared that IIT would be shifted to Basar, Adilabad district if the TDP was voted to power in the next elections.
