RTC union gives strike notice

Agitation to begin on April 16 if demands are not met

HYDERABAD: Bus services of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) are likely to be severely affected in the State from April 16. The APSRTC Employees Union, the second largest union of the corporation with over 42,000 members, has served a notice on the management on Saturday threatening to go on strike on or after April 16. They staged a dharna in front of Bus Bhavan, the APSRTC headquarters here, before handing over the notice to RTC chief personnel manager J. Ramesh.

`Regularise service'

The employees were demanding that the management take steps to regularise the service of contract employees. The also wanted scrapping of the contract appointments. The management should implement the breadwinner scheme wherein job would be provided to a member of the family of RTC employee who dies while discharging duties. They also sought stoppage of outsourcing of garage works, and reopening of closed depots, among others.
