CHENNAI: Flight operations at the international and domestic terminals at the Chennai airport were not severely affected by the bandh on Saturday.

Most of the domestic flights operated by private airlines took off at the appointed hour, Airports Authority of India officials said. A couple of flights of Air India, Indian and Paramount Airlines were rescheduled.

Paramount Airways assistant vice-president C.R. Kannan said as a precautionary measure, three flights to destinations within the State were rescheduled to late evening. Other flights were on time.

To avoid inconvenience to passengers travelling within the State, Paramount postponed two flights to Coimbatore and one to Madurai.

Cancelled

An Air India flight to Singapore and an Indian flight to Colombo were cancelled. Ten other Indian flights were rescheduled.

All passengers of Indian, who were on their way to Singapore, were accommodated on the midnight flight, said the airline authorities.

All flights operated by Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways and Air Deccan were on schedule.

Vehicles arranged

To help passengers arriving at the international and domestic terminals, the police pressed four vehicles into service. Nine trips were made, carrying over 600 passengers from the international and domestic terminals. They were dropped at Egmore and Central railway stations, T. Nagar and Tambaram. But, many spent long hours at the airport waiting for transportation to the city.
