CHANDIGARH: Accusing Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of having insulted him, Punjab Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor K. S. Aulakh on Saturday handed over his letter of resignation to the Registrar, V. K. Sharma, who is also the Secretary of the University's Board of Management. According to a University release, Dr. Aulakh alleged that the Chief Minister had rung him up on Friday evening and demanded certain measures to be taken which he as Vice-Chancellor strongly felt were not in the interest of the University and could "jeopardise" the security of the campus. Dr. Aulakh informed the Board of Management that since he could not fulfil the "whims, demands and desires" of the Chief Minister, whom he also accused of speaking in an "unsavoury manner", he had decided to "quit gracefully" and give the Government an opportunity to appoint a Vice-Chancellor of its preference. The letter makes a brief reference to "political interference" by an Akali Minister on earlier occasions also which he had stoutly resisted. He had stood his ground that appointments at PAU were made only on merit. Dr. Aulakh thanked the Board members for their support, guidance and cooperation during his stay in the University
