Defence Ministry nod for airport

NEW DELHI: Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday announced that the Kannur airport project had got the clearance of the Ministry of Defence.

This announcement was made after Mr. Balakrishnan met Union Minister for Defence A. K. Antony here on Saturday. In New Delhi to attend the Central Committee meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Mr. Balakrishnan met Mr. Antony along with Minister for Education M. A. Baby.

At the meeting, Mr. Balakrishnan assured Mr. Antony that Kerala Government was prepared to give 10 acres, which the Navy wants in the vicinity of the area where the proposed airport is to come up.
