CPT, PCT courses

KOZHIKODE : St. Joseph's College, Devagiri, has been given permission to conduct CPT and PCT courses of Chartered Accountants of India. The CPT course is open to students doing Plus One and Plus Two courses as well as to those who have passed Plus Two course. College Principal said on Saturday that the courses would commence on April 9. Applications are also being accepted for admission to new batches for the foundation courses of ICWAI and ICSI courses as well as to the intermediate course of ICWAI course. Former Dean dead

MANJERI: K. Unnikrishnan, 67, the former Dean of Sciences and the Head of the Department of Botany, Calicut University, died following a brief illness at Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, on Saturday. The funeral will be held at Ivor Madam, Palakkad, at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Dr. Unnikrishnan was a member of the Eureka editorial board. — Staff Reporter

Budget proposals approved

THRISSUR: The Cochin Devaswom Board Chief Commissioner on Saturday approved the proposals for Board's budget for 2007-2008. The proposed budget envisages Rs.61.04 crore as revenue and Rs.60.54 crore as expenditure. - Staff Reporter

Biogas plant fabricated

KOZHIKODE: A programme for the production and distribution of cooking gas making use of waste materials has been prepared by the Council for Energy Conservation and Development led by Corporation Councillor K. Rathi Devi and former Councillor P.P. Sanku. A biogas plant for production of cooking gas from waste materials has already been fabricated. — Staff Reporter

Schools invited to join green army

KOZHIKODE : Upper primary schools, high schools and higher secondary schools have been invited to join the National Green Army which functions with financial assistance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests. Schools, which had already enrolled in the green army, need not apply again. Nearly 400 students would be enrolled this year. Ph: 94470 30091.

Trains rescheduled

Thiruvananthapuram: The Southern Railway has rescheduled three express trains scheduled to depart from Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha on April 1 due to the late arrival of pairing trains on account of bandh in Tamil Nadu. According to the Railway, the 7229 Thiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad Express, scheduled to leave from here at 7.10 a.m., would leave on Sunday at 12 noon. The 2512 Thiruvananthapuram-Gorakhpur Express, scheduled to leave from here at 5.20 a.m., would now depart at 3.15 p.m. The 3352 Alappuzha-Dhanbad Express, scheduled to leave from Alappuzha at 6 a.m., would depart at 2 p.m. - Staff Reporter

Jawan's body arrives

NEDUMBASSERY: The body of a Malayali jawan who died in Uttar Pradesh where he was posted for election duty was brought to the Cochin International Airport here from Delhi on Saturday afternoon. Joshy Scaria, 26, of Senapathy in Idukki district was serving as a constable with the Border Security Force (BSF). According to information reaching his relatives, Joshy sustained burns and eventually succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night.

A group of relatives, led by Congress leader P.T. Thomas, was at the airport to receive the body, which was brought here by Indian flight IC 165. — Staff Reporter

Minister's plea

Thiruvananthapuram: Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran has urged the truck operators to cooperate with the Government and to desist from their proposed strike. In an official press note issued here on Saturday, he said the issue being raised by them was beyond the control of the State Government. He pointed out that because of the situation prevailing in the State, the strike would plunge the people into more misery. — Special Correspondent

`Former TDB chief's remark misleading'

Thiruvananthapuram: Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) chief commissioner has described as misleading the former TDB president G. Raman Nair's statement that the Government was trying to prevent his journey to Sabarimala. In a rejoinder here on Saturday, the chief commissioner said the Government did not want to prevent anyone from going to Sabarimala. It was the right of every pilgrim, he said. — Special Correspondent
