BANGALORE: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will launch a Statewide agitation from Sunday demanding the arrest of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Vice-Chancellor P.S. Prabhakara, the dismissal of Karnataka State Women's University Vice-Chancellor Syeda Akthar and the withdrawal of the new admission policy and fee structure in professional colleges. ABVP State organising secretary N. Ravi Kumar told presspersons here on Saturday that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which inquired into the examination fraud in the RGUHS, had indicted Dr. Prabhakara. Besides the Vice-Chancellor, other officials indicted by the CBI should also be arrested immediately, he said. The Justice S.R. Venkatesh Murthy Commission that looked into the financial irregularities in the Women's University found evidence of corruption against Dr. Akthar. Therefore, the Government should immediately remove her from the post of Vice-Chancellor. Referring to admissions to professional colleges, Mr. Kumar said the agreement reached between the State Government and managements of private colleges was against the interests of students from Karnataka. Karnataka students had to compete with students from other States to obtain a seat in private colleges in the State. The Government should withdraw the agreement that is in favour of private managements, Mr. Kumar said.
