NALGONDA: The MLC-elect Ch. Sitaramulu of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) visited fluorosis-affected areas in Nalgonda district and assured the victims that he would raise their problems in the Legislative Council.

Ramulamma, mother of the 25-year-old Saroja, wept inconsolably when Mr. Sitaramulu called on her at her home in Shivannagudem of Marriguda mandal. Saroja, afflicted by fluorosis, has been bedridden for more than eight years. Accompanied by former MLA Nandhyala Narasimha Reddy, he visited a telephone booth being run by a fluorosis victim, Amsula Swamy. The CPI(M) leaders felicitated Mr. Sitaramulu for winning the elections.

Pension hike

Later speaking to reporters, he said that he would impress upon the Government to increase the pension to Rs.500 from Rs.200. "Though the Chief Minister visited the district 26 times, he couldn't solve the water problem. I will make the council as a forum to force the Government to supply potable water for all villages in Nalgonda district," he said.
