NEW DELHI: The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has been directed to shoulder the responsibility for re-assigning power purchase agreements (PPAs) to distribution companies. Passing the directions, the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi has asked the DERC to work out the long-term PPAs with the discoms. "The Delhi Government has taken the view that as per the provisions of the Delhi Electricity Act the final decision is of the Government and the Commission should determine the tariff for electricity and re-assign the power purchase agreements for the licensees," said a senior official of the Power Department. The Electricity Act mandates the Commission to determine the tariff payable for the use of transmission facilities; to regulate power purchase and procurement process of the licensees and transmission utilities, including the price at which power shall be procured from the generating companies, generating stations or from other sources for transmission, sale, distribution and supply in Delhi. The Commission is also authorised to aid and advise the Government on matters concerning electricity generation, transmission, distribution and supply in the city and regulate the operation of the power system.
