Special Correspondent

Part of studio land sold violating agreement

  • Government allots land at Rs. 8,500 an acre in 1983
  • Value of land resumed is worth Rs. 180 crores

HYDERABAD: The State Government on Saturday resumed 5 acres and 20 guntas of land out of the 9 acres allotted to Padmalaya Studio belonging to film actor G. Krishna at Jubilee Hills here on Saturday. The Hyderabad district revenue officials took over the land amid heavy police bundobast. Mr. Krishna is a former Congress MP and his brother G. Adiseshagiri Rao is chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation Ltd.

According to a press release issued by Hyderabad DPRO, the land resumed is worth Rs. 180 crores. The land was originally allotted to Padmalaya Studio in 1983 at a concessional rate of Rs. 8,500 an acre for construction of a studio. The deed was executed subject to usual condition of alienation. But Padmalaya Studio violated the stipulated condition and sold 4.5 acres to M/s Zee Telefilms and one acre to 14 persons at a higher price in 2005, the release said.

Noticing this, the administration swiftly acted and issued notices to Padmalaya Studio on March 13 and May 25 last year to show cause as to why the allotment should not be cancelled for violation of conditions. The director of the studio had submitted his explanation, but the administration was not convinced and approached legal experts. It had also referred the matter to the Government.

After consulting senior Government officials, the district administration passed orders for resumption of the land. A team of officials comprising Y. Satyanarayana, law officer; Seshu Prasad, Secunderabad RDO; Venkateshwarlu and Krishna Murthy, Tahsildars under the supervision of Joint Collector M. Muktheswar Rao resumed the land duly following the procedure, the release stated.
