KOCHI: The Infant Jesus Parish Protection Council has appealed against the "discrimination of Anglo-Indians by Verapoly Archdiocesan authorities." In a press release here on Saturday, the council said the Latin Catholic leadership was preventing the Anglo-Indians from getting educational reservations under the Latin Catholic quota. The convention of appointing an Anglo-Indian priest either to the post of Vicar General or Chancellor or procurator in the Archdiocese of Varappuzha has been discontinued, said the press release.
Breaking tradition
There was now a move to break the 180-year-old tradition of the administration of the Infant Jesus Church by Anglo-Indians. The move has caused "anxiety" among the parishioners, said the press release. It has also been alleged that the parish priest at the Infant Jesus Church calls the police to the church without any provocation and blamed the Archdiocesan authorities for refusing to consider a petition on the affairs of the parish church.
