TIRUCHI: The Department of Sociology, Bharathidasan University, organised a two-day national-level seminar on `Ageing: Issues and Challenges' at the university recently. According to a press release issued here, most papers presented during the course of the seminar focussed on the problems of the aged. They were of psychological, social and economic issues.
"They need support"
Some papers highlighted the role of social institutions, particularly family, religion and industry, to protect the aged by providing them support. Savithri Vaithi, chairperson, Vishanthi Nilayam, Chennai, in her address, said that old age homes were coming up because of conflicts in family. There must be understanding between the aged and the young, she said.
