NAMAKKAL: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan urged the elected representatives of local bodies to ensure the proper implementation of development works. Participating in the district vigilance and monitoring committee meeting here recently, the Minister said that the elected representatives should inspect the development works carried out in their wards on a regular basis and ensure the speedy execution. They should also make sure that the benefits of the Government welfare schemes reached the target people, she said.
Selection
The officials should inform the selection of beneficiaries and conduct of meetings to the elected representatives. They officials should ensure transparency in beneficiary selection and implementation of welfare schemes, she said. The Minister distributed old age pension and financial assistance to physically challenged persons. Loans were distributed to a few self-help groups. Collector G. Sundaramurthi spoke.
