Special Correspondent
Puducherry: The Puducherry Khadi and Village Industries Board (PKVIB) is now conducting an exhibition-cum-sales of the products and handicrafts made by the beneficiaries of Rural Industries Development Scheme of the Board. The scheme has been implemented in association with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The products are showcased at the six-day exhibition now under way at Sri Vedapureeswarar temple in Puducherry. The fair, which began on March 29, will go on till April 3, a release from the Board said. The PKVIB has been implementing various schemes to ensure that rural craftsmen take up self-employment projects.
Subsidy
The Board has been providing subsidy to them. The Board allocated Rs. 71.18 lakh during 2006-2007 fiscal to meet the subsidy component. The nationalised banks had together earmarked Rs. 2.84 crore during this fiscal. The PKVIB received 650 applications from those seeking the benefits of the schemes from Puducherry and Karaikal regions. Fifty candidates were sanctioned Rs.76.99 lakh as loan. PKVIB extended Rs.21.89 lakh as subsidy. With a view to encouraging the rural industries and those who engaged themselves in self-employment projects, the Board had started providing marketing facilities and the current exhibition was part of the endeavour. Craftsmen from West Bengal, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Karaikal were also participating.
